One Broken Biker

Only 4 days 'til One Broken Biker hosts their silent auction, raising funds to help support riders injured in an accident. Guaranteed to be lots of motorcycle related stuff on the auction tables, so it will be a chance to pick up that special Xmas something for the biker in your family and help the cause as well. Price of the ticket includes a burger and beer and the live music kicks the party up a notch at 9:00. See ya there!

One Million Miles...

You may recall my first blog post on Glenn Turple, specifically his Turple Brothers Motorcycle Shop in Gasoline Alley in Red Deer. Glenn and his brother Rex started selling bikes part time on their farm back in 1949 and, along with the likes of Walt Healy, Trevor Deeley and Bob Kane, they certainly were the pioneers of motorcycle riding in Western Canada. From the farm, to an old house in Olds to the present day 45,000 square foot showroom at the current location, the shop has grown, along with the distances Glenn has travelled every year on his bikes. They don't call him the "Gold Wing King" for nothing, and Glenn has been riding every chance he could get, including this very day no doubt. Now straddling a Gold Wing tri-drive, I've heard many a story from locals about seeing Glenn riding on his way to the shop in the cold and on snowy roads, bundled up in his snowsuit.
And now, 2013 brings a huge milestone that's rare even with the most durable of riders...the one million mile mark! Quite a feat and here's hoping Glenn has many more miles of enjoyment in the future.
And, thanks for helping bring the motorcycle culture to our small part of the world!

BCI Mini Chopper

Sanjay found this fun little chopper for sale for next to nothing, so we bought her and brought her back to the office as the new "mascot" bike. There are a few minor issues, including a dead battery, but we tried the kick starter and, lo and behold, she turned over and sputtered to life!! haha! Awesome! We'll strip off the tank and fenders etc and sand them off so that Kyla can work a little air-brush magic and make her into "Little Blue", our new mascot bike. Come Spring, or the next chinook when all the snow in the alley is clear, we'll get her out and see what 100c.c. can do. Might be a challenge with that raked front end and the low clearance, but it should be fun and good for a little promotional tool.

Born to run!

Unlike the toy bike sitting next to it, this chopper has a 100c.c. motor

The battery was dead but we got her going with the kick starter!

Sloppy Hoggs Roed Hus

I was up in Edmonton doing some dealership visits, as well as hanging out with my good friends Jamie and Romeo. We went out for dinner at this fantastic place called Sloppy Hoggs Roed Hus, so named by giving a nod to owner Bjorn Cochran's Danish roots and his love of motorcycles, amongst other things.
It's a cool space and has that "roed hus" feel, with an authentic southern B.B.Q. menu of generously porportioned beef brisket and pulled pork, pit beans and other such hearty fare. All the meat is smoked in house and served up with an assortment of delicious  B.B.Q. sauces and mustards. We ordered up the platter, which came on a bed of home fries, so we could sample it all and gorged ourselves like the beasts we really are! haha! And though we were stuffed,  we did have to sample the maple bourbon bread pudding served up hot in a mini-skillet, though we just ordered one and 3 forks!! haha! Great food, great atmosphere, great hosts and great friends. How do you go wrong there?

Carnivore heaven!

Cool plates from the 30's adorn the wall

Jamie and Romeo took me to this great eatery.

We could only share this dessert after chowing down on the big platter for dinner.

Can't wait to ride in here on my bike in the Summer

Mo-Vember 'Stache Fact #2

Definitely rockin' the chops

There is a lot of discrepancies when it comes to mutton chops and sideburns. Some say that mutton chops are extremely bushy sideburns, some say that mutton chops are just sideburns that do not attach to the moustache. Regardless, another bit of facial hair trivia to amuse you as you grow it out for the cause!

Mo-Vember 'Stache Fact #1

The general
Originally, sideburns were called "burnsides", after the Civil War General Ambrose Burnsides, who first sported this style of facial hair about 100 years ago. Of course, they became recycled fashion in the 70's and with the current trend of hipster beards, can we expect another go round sometime in the near future?

Who can remember the 70's?
