The logistics are pretty amazing, with everything from finding a sizeable staging area for 600+ bikes and a few hundred more non-riders, to co-ordinating the actual ride itself with the Calgary Police Service, to the poker run and final staging area, as well as the B.B.Q. and after party.
Even still, once the event concludes and everyone goes home, there's a ton of work to do to clear things up, and then it's right back into the planning of next year's event. Of course, the joy of a successful Ride and the generous support of sponsors and donors alike means you also get to send out a lot of thank you notes and placards. Blue Circle was certainly pleased and proud to receive ours as a "Platinum" sponsor!
And, there's also the question of exactly where the money that was raised is going to be spent. The Calgary Ride For Dad has dedicated $128,000.00 to go back into the Calgary community, with some going to a local research group that will contribute to finding a cure for the disease. Also, we have dedicated a portion of that toward our awareness campaign, with promotions like the Man-Van, the mobile prostate cancer testing lab that offers the free PSA (blood testing) to the public.
If you are wondering just what the riding community contributed, $109,000.00 of that total was pledges from participating riders!! Way to go Calgary!! See you at the ride in 2014, which we plan to be bigger and better yet!
The Man-Van will be down at the Calgary bike show on January 10th, 11th and 12th, 2014. |
