Slingshot

Though the Can-Am 'Spyder' has been making a few in-roads with the 'reverse' trike style of road machine, higher performance rigs like the KTM 'X-Bow' and the Campagna 'T-Rex' have been coming on a bit stronger these days, probably due to that power factor that gives them the look and feel of a slammed ATV. Now comes another version of the same high performance machine, with Polaris just introducing their 'Slingshot' at the end of July.
Though Polaris is now the owners responsible for Victory and Indian motorcycles, you may be surprised to find out that the 'Slingshot' is not powered by either one of those V-Twins, but from a G.M. produced 'Eco Tec' 2.4 litre, 4 cylinder gas engine, producing 173 h.p.  with 166 ft. lbs of torque. A 5 speed manual transmission delivers power to the 20" rear wheel via a carbon fibre reinforced belt drive. At 2000 lbs (including two passengers), that's a fair bit of screech factor,  and considering the electronic over rides that are built into the system for safety (ABS, traction control etc) are tuned a bit higher, than those on a 'Spyder' for example, there's going to be a fair bit of fun that goes along with the ride. I guess it comes by the name 'Slingshot' honestly!
Price is about the same as a 'Spyder', at about $20,000.00 U.S., so another bit of the competitive edge to the 'Slingshot'.
