I did a series of posts on significant individuals who helped shape Canada into what it is today, as it related to Black History Month. And, BlueCircle's friends and business affiliates over at CARSTAR, who greatly assist our clients when they deal with the misfortunes that sometimes occur while driving, have their own set of heroes to share with us all. This comes in the form of a cool little desk top calendar they gave me and each month features a person who not only made a difference to Canada, but quite often had a positive influence on this great big world of ours.
This month is a prime example, with our March hero being Romeo Dallaire, retired Lieutenant General, Force Commander for the U.N. mission in Rwanda and a Canadian Senator.
Today, he is a celebrated humanitarian and advocate for human rights, genocide prevention, mental health and war-affected children. He founded the Romeo Dallaire Child Soldiers initiative, an organization that aims to end the use of child soldiers, and he has written two best selling books related to this cause.
The use of child soldiers has been a particularly brutal issue and is the topic of several of several books and movies. If you receive and read the BlueCircle newsletter, free to clients and non-clients alike, you'll have seen my movie pick for last month, "Beasts Of No Nation". Watch that film and then you'll see why people like Romeo Dallaire are working so hard to prevent those kinds of tragedies from occurring.
