I met artist Dean Stanton today. You may not know him but chances are, if you live or travel in and around Calgary, Banff and Edmonton, you've seen Dean's work. There are murals, such as the one on Sunalta school in Calgary. Or the interior of Aardvark Pizza in Banff and GrabbaJabba coffee shop in Edmonton.
Dean has a style all his own, whimsical, funky and fun, and it's no surprise that Dean's art has a natural appeal to kids. In fact, Dean does a lot of work with schools and kids and is able to not only interest them in art, but to truly engage them with their participation in his projects and pieces. Currently, Dean is working on a project piece that has the kids in one school painting individual panels of various sizes that will fit together like a puzzle and form a work of art. I'll be sure to follow up with a post when that nears completion.
