Worn To Be Wild!

I got a text and some photos sent to me by Troy, who spotted some cool bikes in the Glenbow Museum Gift Shop window. Of course, I had to walk over and check it out myself and see what was going on inside the building too! The bikes were part of a display set up to highlight an exhibition of the iconic black leather jacket, most recognized as a symbol of the motorcycle culture. The bikes and other display items come courtesy of Mick Cawthorn, owner of Kanes Harley Davidson in Calgary, and perfectly sets the stage for "Worn To Be Wild: The Black Leather Jacket". Fifty leather jackets, including early twentieth century aviation apparel; Second World War-era painted military flight jackets; punk jackets from the 1970's and 80's; jackets worn by Elvis, Arnold Schwartzenegger and other film and music celebrities; and haute couture by legendary designers such as Prada, Chanel and Givenchy. The leather jacket was originally designed for protection from danger or the elements but was soon adopted by individualists who rejected mainstream ideas of fashion. Now it has become a crucial accessory of the fashion-conscious, somewhat of an interesting contradiction.
The Calgary exhibit is the only stop in Canada and runs from now until May 4th

Who wouldn't recognize Captain America's ride?

Maybe these old gals remember being around during this bike's heyday
