There are several categories of classes within The Dakar and not just bikes either, though there are three classes in that category as well. Within the 'Motorcycle Class' there is 'Marathon' and 'Super-Production', with the limit being < 450 c.c.. Quads are also placed in the Motorcycle Class. There is also the 'Car Class', with sub-divisions into 'Improved Cross Country' and 'Cross Country Series Production' and an 'Open Class' that accepts weight qualifying trucks. However, there is a 'Truck Class' as well, for vehicles weighing over 3500 kg. In that Class there are 'T4' trucks used for competition and 'T5' trucks used as rally support vehicles.
